Human Interest, the fastest-growing¹, top-rated² 401(k) provider, has been named to the Fortune Impact 20 list. Presented by TPG’s The Rise Fund, the Fortune Impact 20 highlights venture- and private-equity-backed startups that drive social and environmental change through innovative business models. (Note: TPG is not involved in the selection process; read more about the methodology). The award spotlights companies that have moved past the proof-of-concept phase and have delivered financial returns while influencing positive impact.

A recent Pew study found that the retirement gap (the difference between what’s needed and what’s currently saved for retirement) will create a $1.3 trillion economic burden over the next 20 years. Founded in 2015, Human Interest aims to bridge this gap by helping to ensure access to retirement plans for all workers. About 57 million people between the ages of 18 and 65—nearly half of all private-sector workers—in the U.S. lacked access to a traditional pension or retirement savings plan according to a 2022 report. By identifying and eliminating barriers created by traditional providers, Human Interest aims to leverage its modern platform to disrupt a legacy industry.

Human Interest has more than tripled its customer base in under two years, providing retirement plan access to over half a million savers. Its innovations include eliminating transaction fees, offering industry-first cash-back incentives for savers who earn below the national median wage, and simplifying the setup and management of retirement plans for small businesses.

“At Human Interest, we use technology to make retirement plans easy and affordable for small and medium businesses and their employees,” said Jeff Schneble, CEO at Human Interest. “We’re honored to be included among Fortune’s list of companies combining profit and purpose to drive transformative change in the world.”

Human Interest ranked seventh on the Fortune Impact 20 for 2023. Read more about the Fortune Impact 20.
