Investment Funds
and Philosophy

While mutual funds are the preferred choice of 401(k) brokers due to their high kickbacks, the research is clear — employees are better off investing in index funds.

“Most investors will find that the best way to own common stocks is through an index fund that charges minimal fees. Those following this path are sure to beat the net results (after fees and expenses) delivered by the great majority of investment professionals.”

Warren Buffet
Chairman & CEO,
Berkshire Hathaway

Low-cost index
funds and more

Human Interest's recommended 401(k) plan includes low-cost Vanguard index funds from every major asset class and risk category. We also have access to nearly every mutual fund and index fund on the market (over 30,000!) from Charles Schwab, BlackRock, Oppenheimer, Fidelity, and many more.

Unlike other 401(k) providers, Human Interest does not accept kickbacks, so we have no financial incentive to recommend any particular fund.

For employees who want personalized investment advice, we offer it at no additional cost. Employees who want more flexibility can choose and manage their own funds.

Access to 30,000+ investment funds

Investment Philosophy

Why we offer investment advice

  • Our 401(k) plans all include an optional, automated investing service at no additional cost so that employees can make the most of their savings. Many employees feel that the process of setting up and maintaining their 401(k)s is so overwhelming that they'd rather just not do it at all. We're here to help make it easy! Financial literacy is a big part of our mission.

  • Our investment advising will help employees diversify globally, rebalance automatically, and avoid hidden fees — all of this is done automatically while taking their personal financial situations into account. Investment strategies should not be one-size-fits-all.

Our approach

  • Invest today: The sooner you start, the better. Our easy interface will make the first step much more doable.
  • Take the right amount of risk: A 25 year-old and a 55 year-old should not have the same 401(k) strategy. We'll help you figure out how to best balance risk and reward.
  • Diversify: Don't put all your eggs in one basket! Funds should be spread out in a healthy and secure way.
  • Reduce unnecessary costs: Just as interest compounds, so can fees. Extra fees can end up costing you a fortune in the long run. Low-cost index funds are the most efficient way to grow your hard-earned money.
  • Avoid performance chasing: 401(k)s are a long-term investment, not a short-term bet. We'll help you stay the course so you can weather the inevitable ups and downs of the market with an eye on your long-term financial security.
